Cheer Coach
Position summary:
Kilgore College is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Cheer Coach to lead and develop a highly
competitive cheer program that aligns with the college’s commitment to academic success, student
development, and athletic excellence. The Head Coach will be responsible for building and sustaining an elite level program capable of competing at the national level, while fostering a culture of discipline, accountability, and student-athlete success.
Position responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the competitive cheer program.
- Design and implement elite-level routines, including stunting, tumbling, pyramids, and choreography, with the goal of competing at national championships (e.g., NCA Daytona).
- Lead all practices, conditioning sessions, and performance preparations.
- Evaluate performance through film review and technical analysis to ensure continuous improvement.
Recruitment & Roster Management:
- Identify, recruit, and retain highly skilled student-athletes capable of competing at the collegiate national level.
- Build and maintain a competitive roster that supports both co-ed and all-girl divisions (as applicable).
- Establish recruiting pipelines through high schools, clubs, and national cheer networks.
Student-Athlete Development:
- Promote academic achievement and monitor student-athlete progress toward degree completion.
- Foster leadership, personal development, and life skills among team members.
- Cultivate a team culture centered on discipline, resilience, accountability, and a “family” environment.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols for stunting, tumbling, and practice environments.
- Maintain compliance with NJCAA regulations, institutional policies, and governing body standards (e.g., USA Cheer).
- Collaborate with athletic training staff to prioritize injury prevention and care.
Operations & Administration:
- Manage program logistics, including travel, scheduling, equipment, and uniforms.
- Oversee program budget and assist with fundraising initiatives to support team needs.
- Coordinate with athletic department staff on game-day responsibilities and campus events.
Campus & Community Engagement
- Represent Kilgore College at institutional, community, and athletic events.
- Support athletic department initiatives, including game-day promotions and fan engagement.
- Promote the program through outreach, social media, and community involvement.
Position Requirements:
Required:
- Demonstrated experience coaching competitive cheer at the high school, collegiate, or elite club level.
- Expertise in advanced stunting, tumbling instruction, and choreography.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to student-athlete academic success and holistic development.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Sports Management, Physical Education, or related field.
- Collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NJCAA or NCAA level.
- Experience competing or coaching at national-level cheer competitions.
- Certification or affiliation with recognized cheer governing bodies (e.g., USA Cheer).
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Minimum collegiate playing experience at any level
- Individuals must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must have working knowledge of various technology platforms and software such as: Google, Microsoft
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Demonstrated success in recruiting, ability to establish professional relationships among students, staff and administration

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

- Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.

Positions will remain open until filled. Some Adjunct and Part-Time teaching positions may remain open perpetually as the need for part time instructors fluctuates with student enrollment. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
