Director of Bands & Music Instructor
Position summary:
Kilgore College offers a strong collegiate music program with several unique course offerings and performing ensembles including KC Chorale, KC Connection (Choir), Wind Symphony, Marching Band, Chamber Ensembles (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings, Piano), Big Band Jazz Ensemble and Steel Band in a department with approximately 250 students regularly enrolled in music courses. Preparation for several major concerts and solo and ensemble festivals and auditions occurs year-round. This is an 11-month faculty position.
Position responsibilities:
- Direct the Kilgore College Marching Band, the flagship instrumental ensemble of Kilgore College
- Coordinate show selection, march and drill design, music arrangements, and licensing
- Work closely with Kilgore College Athletics, the Rangerettes, and Twirlers to coordinate game days
- Conduct all administrative duties for the Band
- Recruit and engage current and future students to become members of the Kilgore College Bands
- Supervise student leadership team, including drum majors and others for logistical operation
- Audition and advise band students
- Teach, conduct, and develop other college instrumental ensembles
- Organize and maintain the band music library
- Coordinate and organize the distribution of uniforms for band students
- Manage inventory, repair and provide maintenance of all band instruments and equipment
- Schedule and operate a band camp for KC band members
- Create various programs for engagement with the Kilgore community and East Texas region
- May be required to teach other music courses based on department needs and faculty expertise, including applied lessons, music appreciation, music theory and aural skills
Minimum Position Requirements:
- At least one of the following credentials from an accredited institution of higher education:
- A master’s degree in Music
- A master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music with major emphasis in instrumental conducting, performance, music education, or related discipline
- A bachelor’s degree in music with significant teaching and performance experience
- Experience coordinating with and accompanying drill teams
- Demonstrated success working with diverse populations
- Professional Performing Experience and Focus
- Team Teaching capability and experience in the college environment preferred
- Secondary Level Teaching Experience preferred
- Excellent Communication and Organizational Skills
- The ability to provide quality customer service
- The ability to develop strong relationships and recruiting pipelines with area high school bands and their directors
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- 0 Full-Time Direct Reports 1-2 Part-Time Student Direct Reports
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Very limited exposure to physical risk.

Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

- Compensation for this 11-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $54,678 for a Master's to $63,426 for a doctorate. Additional Band Director Stipend is available*
Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.
All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.

Positions will remain open until filled. Some Adjunct and Part-Time teaching positions may remain open perpetually as the need for part time instructors fluctuates with student enrollment. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
