Assistant Professor of Piano and Staff Accompanist
Position summary:
Kilgore College offers a strong collegiate music program with several unique course offerings and performing ensembles including KC Chorale, KC Connection (Choir), Wind Symphony, Marching Band, Chamber Ensembles (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings, Piano), Big Band Jazz Ensemble and Steel Band in a department with approximately 250 students regularly enrolled in music courses. Preparation for several major concerts and solo and ensemble festivals and auditions occurs year-round.
Position responsibilities:
- Teach, conduct, and develop college level piano courses
- Manage and take sole responsibility for all piano studies in a sequential program of instruction at Kilgore College
- Recruit piano students through various initiatives including on and off-campus school, community, and event activities and visits
- Audition and advise piano students regarding courses and degrees
- Host piano events on campus
- Serve as staff accompanist, including rehearsals and performances with applied lesson students and ensembles
- Teach other music courses as assigned in areas of expertise and department needs including music literature, and music appreciation
- Manage and develop piano music library
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in Piano Pedagogy, Piano Performance, Music Education or related degree, or a Master’s degree or higher with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Piano Pedagogy, Piano Performance, or Music Education
- Applicants should have demonstrated experience as a piano instructor, performer, and accompanist in a variety of styles including classical, jazz, and contemporary music.
- At least one year of teaching experience required
- Demonstrated success working with diverse populations
- Professional Performing Experience and Focus
- Team Teaching capability and experience in the college environment preferred
- Secondary Level Teaching Experience preferred
- Excellent Communication and Organizational Skills
- The ability to provide quality customer service

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

- Compensation for this 10-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $49,707 for a Master's degree to $57,659 for a doctorate. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.
Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.
All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.

Positions will remain open until filled. Some Adjunct and Part-Time teaching positions may remain open perpetually as the need for part time instructors fluctuates with student enrollment. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
